"Life
is made of moments. All art, all paintings, are moments captured, and
in effect moments themselves. From ancient greek statues to contemporary
paintings, all these pieces have both captured something, and will express
it for a certain limited period of time. My fire paintings are this
in the extreme. While the flames are caressing and contrasting with
the painting, the piece is for a minute or two, the pure intended expression. The
brievity of the fire painting's moment magnifies colour and meaning
to an exceptional height. By photographing the moment I attempt to capture
at least a portion of this intensity-- hopefully sufficient to represent
the moment and the meaning that have now passed. The resulting digital
pieces are both the aesthetic composition and a comment on the temporality
of the art itself."
