Artist Commentary:
"This session of photos comes a three month affair with food colouring. The courtship with these wonderful little bottles of colour has led to a variety of artistic experiments, from hanging glass jars of bottle colour from the ceiling to the digital photos you see in this session."
"For these photos I set up a pane of glass suspended over a reflective white background. The colours were dripped on, then swirled about. Using the macro feature and the high resolution RAW setting on my camera, I snapped these photos as the sun glistened off the white background, up through the miggling colours on the glass."
"What I find fascinating are the 'organic fractals' that formed and can be seen on the high resolution original images. It is striking similar to the computer generated fractal images (of Mandelbrot sets and chaos theory phenomenon) that look like spindly trees with equally spindly branches. If you look closely at these images, number two in particular, you can see a very similar pattern emerge in the colours of light reflecting through the edges of the water."
"The pictures are also dazzling bursts of colour that seem to take on their own personalities. These ones were eventually selected and tuned for their intriguing shapes and interesting textures. Some are luminous and cheerful, others, despite their colour, seem darkly foreboding. Colour Storm for example was done on the day of the London bombings. "
