Artist's Statement
“The
key to capturing
fire is in the shutter speed of the camera. The difference between a
shutter open for 1/1000th of a second and 1/4000 is both dramatic and
thought provoking.
The faster the
shutter the more remarkable detail, sharpness and form appears in these
images of dancing flames.
A biologist sees
more by
increasing the magnification of her microscope. In the case of fire,
time is the magnifying lens. The smaller the instant of exposure, the
more intricacy appears in the shot. The smaller the instant, the more
there is to see.
In capturing
fire I am awed by the spiralling infinity that explodes in the ever
shortened instant. "
